A musical description of Narvik and the four surrounding mountains. The work was a commission for the 50th anniversary of the Winter Festival Week in Narvik 2006. Composed with support from the Norwegian Composers' Fund. The premiere was Narvik municipality's gift for the anniversary.<\/p>\n

For: vocals, violin, cello, clarinet in Bb, horn in F, piano and sounds from CD (or sound file).<\/p>\n

Beautiful about the mountains <\/strong><\/h2>\n

<\/strong>Frode Fjellheim's \"\u00c1hkunj\u00e1rga\" was a 38 minute lovely experience. For the ear of course, but also for the eye.<\/h3>\n

The latter will be credited to set designer Siri Angell Flengsrud and lighting designer Tor Ditlefsen. Their artistic contribution added to the beautiful composition just the little extra that was needed to complete the overall experience.<\/p>\n

Fire fjell…
\nFrode Fjellheim has used his experiences in and of the mountains and nature around Narvik as a starting point for his composition.<\/p>\n

Four famous mountains, but also four seasons. Each mountain has its own set, all of which are preceded by electronic sounds and loops before the musicians take over.<\/p>\n

I midten har Fjellheim lagt inn et flott, rytmisk mellomstikk – hvor sangeren Sofia Jannok joiket over temaet \u00c1hkunj\u00e1rga – T\u00f8ttas sitt nes.<\/p>\n

The movements have names such as \"In the beginning was the mountain\", \"The power of the mountain\", and \"The psalm of the mountain\", and have lighting that suits each individual. Blue for winter, green for spring, orange for summer and yellow for autumn. A beautiful, visual emphasis on the theme of the music.<\/p>\n

Many styles
\nFjellheim is a composer who masters classical, rock, jazz, modernism and electronics. In \u00c1hkunj\u00e1rga he uses all. In addition to the yoik.<\/p>\n

Fjerdesatsen for eksempel – som beskriver Den Sovende Dronning – begynner rent elektronisk, f\u00f8r den glir over mot nasjonalromantikk.<\/p>\n

Satsen foran var bygget opp motsatt; og utviklet seg fra \u00e5 begynne klangfull og lavm\u00e6lt til \u00e5 g\u00e5 over i rytmisk jazz – f\u00f8r den igjen roet seg helt ned mot slutten.<\/p>\n

Beautifully executed, and brilliantly performed by Nina Bergquist Rolland, Gro Torvanger, Cathrine Holst, Runar Sollie and Stig Molv\u00e6r in Ensemble Oscar.<\/p>\n

Narvik municipality could not have given Vinterfestuka a better birthday present ..<\/p>\n
