"Yoik as a starting point", a course at Nord University, Levanger 2021-22

NB; application deadline April 15!

"Yoik as a starting point" at Nord University is a study developed by Frode Fjellheim and perhaps the only university study in the world where students get to work with yoik as a starting point for creating new music.

At the bottom of this is a solid introduction to yoik as a musical expression - and a basic introduction to Sami culture. Students can create their own yoiks, use elements from traditional yoik in new contexts and learn how Europe's oldest living music tradition can give you new musical ideas for your own music. the only university program in the world where students get to work with yoik as a starting point for creating new music.

Våkenatt – av Konstellasjonen

"Våkenatt" – by Konstellasjonen

Frode Fjellheim has created the music for "Våkenatt", an interactive all-consuming experience for tweens between the ages of 10-13.
"Våkenatt" ("Vigil"), is an more of an experience than a show. A place to find a way, a place to get lost. We are proud to present an alternative Christmas experience for an audience that does not have an abundance of cultural offerings - those who are between being children and being youths.

Giedtine – Hvem eier vinden?

Giedtine – Who Owns the Wind?

Frode Fjellheim has created the music for this performance at Åarjelhsaemien Teatere 2020.
"Giedtine" refers to something like "a reindeer fence" in Southern Sami, and the performance is an important and different commentary in the pro or con wind power debate, and the debate for or against what is known in Norway as "the green shift", a shift in the economy, power production and many other aspects of our daily life towards more climate-friendly solutions. The Sami reindeer fence is the mirror image of the Chinese chalk ring, which was used as the focal point of justice in the Chinese playwright Li Qianfu's universal drama about the child that two women claim.
